Early Vedic Period Overview
The Early Vedic Period marks the settlement of Indo-Aryans in the northwestern Indian subcontinent (c.1500–1000 BCE), mainly in the Punjab and Sarasvati River basin. Society was predominantly pastoral, with cattle rearing as the principal occupation alongside emerging agriculture. The Rigveda, the oldest Vedic text, was composed during this era, reflecting the religious and social ethos of the time.
