Later Vedic Period Overview

The Later Vedic Period (c. 1000–600 BCE) saw the Aryans expand eastward into the Ganga–Yamuna Doab and Bihar. Marked by the advent of iron technology, settled agriculture became dominant. This era also witnessed the codification of the varna system and the composition of the Samaveda, Yajurveda, Atharvaveda, Brahmanas, Aranyakas, and early Upanishads.
