The dynasty emerged in the aftermath of Mauryan decline, with Simuka inaugurating Satavahana rule in the Deccan around 100 BCE. Key rulers included Gautamiputra Satakarni and Vashishtiputra Pulumavi, under whom the realm reached its zenith and repelled Saka incursions.
