Mathura and Gandhara School of Art

During the Kushan period (1st–3rd century CE), two distinct artistic traditions flourished in India: the indigenous Mathura School and the Greco-Roman-influenced Gandhara School. Both pioneered the first human depictions of the Buddha and shaped Indian sculpture for centuries.
